CHANGE OF A SEASON

As the days grow shorter, and the weather is cool and soothing; let your mind change with the season. Let negative feeings and situations drift from your life like the falling of the October leaves. Let each sunrise be filled with magic and each sunset filled with inner peace. The serenity of autumn is not just a time of year... it can be a perpetual state of mind.

HAIKU

   Today I thought I might share some sample haiku from my book, Shadow Grove. I hope you enjoy them;

Dead space where you were
empty room devoid of soul
I still look for you.

Dark, empty highways
spiraling through autumn’s dream
roads that lead to home.

The past transparent
breaking me as it shatters
memories of glass.

Corn stalks lurch about
wind animates the field
I drift with the leaves.

Glossolalia
black winds murmur evil words
devils ride the night.

DAY 2 WITH JAY BRICE

     ...Please welcome to the blog once again Mr. Jay Brice; co-author of Heartbroken and Homicidal;

I want to thank everyone who stopped in yesterday to read my words, I really am very grateful for the kindness and support I am receiving for this book. Although I have never written a book or booklet before, some of my articles have been published in magazines over the years. I am a published writer, but this really is new territory for me. I wrote yesterday about how I always wanted to write this kind of book, but was unsure about how to proceed with it. I had read some of Paul's work in the past and had read his blog from time to time, so I decided to email him and ask him some questions about the steps to take. He was kind enough to share his insight with me and eventually offered to take a look at my notes and scribbled pages that I had hoped to one day turn into a book. We had corresponded for a while before this and had chatted on the phone a few times as well. He offered some great advice and helped to turn this project into a reality.

Heartbroken and Homicidal really is the kind of book that I wished I had owned back when I had gone through some hard breakups. I say this not because I wrote it; but because it really is a book that is like a friend and guide on the dark road of heartbreak. It is the kind of book that can be referred to again and again for support and comfort. I always had in mind that if I did this project, I wanted to cut out all the fluff and just put the meat and potatoes information in the hands of the reader. I wasn't really sure if a big publisher would ever want to publish such a book. But luckily, I discovered through talking with Paul that shorter works were welcomed in the epublishing world; and some of them even done quite well. I feel very blessed to have written this book and also to have it co-authored by such a wonderful and insightful human being as Paul James Caiden.  In the beginning he wanted me to take full credit for the book, "after all," he would say, "this is your dream book." But I protested politely and told him that he had worked on this book as well and had contributed some great stuff to the manuscript. So in the end, I finally convinced him to add his name to the project. I really feel that this book will be a game changer and a life enhancer for those who seek solice in its pages.

GUEST BLOGGER JAY BRICE

Today we welcome to the blog my co-author Jay Brice. Jay and I have written the book, Heartbroken and Homicidal, which will be out later this week. I will now turn the blog over to Jay to tell us a little bit about the book:

Thanks Paul, I appreciate the opportunity to write on your blog and I hope people will enjoy reading what I write here today. First and foremost, the idea for Heartbroken and Homicidal came about when a friend of mine was going through a very bad breakup. He was so down and depressed that he actually went in search of a book that might give him some advice on how to cope with what he was going through. He found a couple of titles, but later told me that the contents was pretty superficial. This put the wheels in motion and I thought about doing a project for a long time. I wanted to write a book that had some solid relationship advice within its pages, but was unsure on how to proceed with the idea. It wasn't until I met Paul and actually bounced the idea off of him one night while discussing literature. I have never written a book before, so this is my first. It was Paul that suggested writing a book that was more of manual on what not to do when your relationship ends. I thought that was a great idea, and began to jot down some ideas; later on, Paul began to help me edit and contributed some great material to the project.

We wanted to leave all of the filler material and superfluous banter out of the book and just really cut to the chase. Let's face it, if your really hurting and in need of advice, you don't want to wade through a pile of red tape and useless chapters. You want to get right to the meat of the information as quickly as possible. So what we ended up with is a "short" as they call it in the writing business. The whole book is probably about fifteen pages, but it is dense in its delivery and material. It really is a great little book with a lot of good points to ponder in it. I'm quite excited for it to be released later this week, and I hope that it proves to be useful in the lives of those who may be going through heartbreak.

* Join us tomorrow when Jay will talk more about the upcoming Booklet, Heartbroken and Homicidal (What not to do when your relationship ends.)

HEARTBROKEN AND HOMICIDAL

The final edits will be done this week on a project I have been working on with auther Jay Brice. The project is a radical departure from my usual genres and will be a nonfiction book about relationships. It is a shorter work, a booklet really, entitled; Heartbroken and Homicidal - What Not To Do When You'r Relationship Ends. The book is done in a sometimes humorous way and tries to to deflect the reader from pulling some of the insane stunts that that the broken hearted sometimes engage in. Let's face it, we have all probably made a putz out of ourselves a time a two during the mind bending moments of heartache... this book aims to help the wounded soul out with some constructive and down to earth advice. This book is the first in many shorter works that I will be doing with other local or indie authors over time. Co-auther Jay Brice will be guest blogging here tomorrow, so please do stop by and give him a warm welcome.

A sample of the books cover appears below; my name does not appear on the cover, as I desired no credits for the book. My aim in the beginning was just to help out a fellow writer with an idea that sounded interesting.. But due to Jay's persistence, that will all change by release time. :-)

Heartbroken and Homicidal should be available by the end of this week.

FROM REAL LIFE TO THE WRITTEN PAGE

The gift of story telling that my grandparents introduced me to has been one that has lasted a lifetime. As a young boy I enjoyed reading, watching movies and hearing other people tell oral tales; and when it came time to do creative writing in school, I was highly praised by my teachers (even though I wasn't the greatest student in other areas.) As the years went by I began writing poetry, short stories and eventually longer works of various genres. I always say that I let my muse dictate what will be written when the time comes to start a new project; to try and force the process would be a futile attempt. So now you know why I may write about angels or runes one minute, and the next I'm pumping out stories that involve flesh eating zombies. :-)

Fortune and fame have little to do with the whole writing life for me; if it comes, great... if not, that's okay too. I feel blessed whether I sell one copy of a book or one hundred. Ideas just have to be born, from real life to the written page.

WHO IS PAUL JAMES CAIDEN (PART 3)

One of the things that really shaped my life in the early years occured back in the November of 1979. I was twelve years old, and not a very happy child at that moment. There seemed to be a lot of negativity in my life at that young age. I won't go into all the details about what was happening at that time, but through it all I was very blessed to have what we call an angelic encounter. It was a very strange occurrence, and at the start I was quite fearful of what was happening. But it didn't take long for the aura of unconditional love that radiated from the being to win me over and make me feel more secure. During this encounter, a lot of information was imparted to my soul, information that was beyond my young mind to come up with on its own. It was a time of great wonderment but also a lot of questions.

My encounter was different than others I have read about in popular books, in that it reoccurred over many years. As I grew older I was unsure about a great many things about the encounter; and even questioned my own sanity. After all, angels always popping up in my life at unexpected times... especially when times were tough. But then in 2004, one of the most dynamic encounters with the angel took place. And to me surprise, many odd and unexplained things began to happen in the presence of others: celestial music would play out of nowhere, floating orbs of light would slowly drift through the room, the smell of flowers and the sound of bells ringing would come out of thin air. After these things were witnessed so many times by other individuals, I knew that the angelic encounter was not just a figment of my imagination.

To go into all the details about what happened during those encounters would take many, many blogs. But suffice it to say, it was life changing for me. It truly made me realize that we are not alone in this universe, and something very big and loving watches over us all... If you would like to read the details of the entire encounter, I would invite you to read my book, An Angel Came Down, .. It is a book that I am very proud of, and one that I hope will change the life perspective of the reader as well.

WHO IS PAUL JAMES CAIDEN (PART 2)

As far as religion goes, I was exposed to some very negative concepts at a young age. The days of my grandparent's positive spin on God and heaven were short lives. Once my parents got more serious about spirituality, they began to take my brother and I to a hellfire and brimstone church. It was in this church that I heard how God punished people severely for their sins. If we stubbed our toe, broke our leg, caught a cold or died pf cancer, it was God's way of giving us a spiritual spanking for our short comings... It was an idea that filled me with fear for many years to come; and I no longer believed that the man upstairs was my friend.

Even at a very early age, I was interested in the power of the mind and psychic phenomenon. Religion however told me that these things were evil and sinful. But eventually, curiousity got the better of me and I began to explore other aspects of spiritual belief. I dabbled in the New Age, experimented with different aspects of magic and even walked a mile or two as a pagan. So where do I stand spiritually once the dust of many years had settled? I believe in the more metaphysical philosophies or "Mind Sciences," as some call them. I still have my splash of New Age beliefs and also a hint of Spiritualism thrown in. I believe in God, angels, life beyond death and that the universe is basically a good and friendly place. I was fortunate enough in life to also have some very mind blowing spiritual experiences that helped to throw off the chains of religious fear and eventually find my way back to a more positive belief system.... But we will discuss those experiences tomorrow.

WHO IS PAUL JAMES CAIDEN (PART 1)

I thought for the rest of this week, we would take a peek inside my mind and see what makes me tick; sort of a getting to know blog. I suppose to start out, we will delve into where my interest in horror stories and the supernatural came from. To some, it may seem a little strange that a person involved in spirituality and metaphysics would be interested in ghosts, goblins, monsters and zombies. I was first exposed to the world of the unknown and the macabre by my grandparents. When I was quite young, and would spend the night at their house, they would turn off the lights at dusk and spin yarns of ghosts and strange happenings. I always looked forward to these times, and was absolutley fascinated by the thought of it all.

On those long ago weekends at granny's, we would also all gather around the TV and watch what my grandparents would fondly refer to as a "spook picture." It was also my grandparents who had first exposed me to the concept of God and evening prayers. I don't think anything captivated my young mind as much as these ideas and stories of Divine beings, spirits and other worlds. Needless to say, it was these days of my childhood that planted the seeds that have stuck with me and grown these many years later; and these subjects captivate my mind now just as much as they did way back then...

V/H/S Horror Movie Review

Last night I watche the pre-theatrical release of V/H/S on pay per view. The movie came wrapped in much hype and promises of being the scariest movie to come out in years. THE VERDICT: It had some okay ideas, but fell very flat. Nothing was explained, there were far too many blurry/shakey camera shots; there was nothing here that we have not seen before. I do not think it will do well when it comes out in theaters next month. I really wish the writers and director would have fleshed some of these stories out a little more and given us a better product. It seemed like they had a number of incomplete ideas that they just rushed to put on film and disguised it as a slice of life/as it occured horror movie... But it just didn't work out in the end.

HAUNTED

Would you spend labor day weekend in this house? Do you fear the things that go bump in the night? I would bet that their are many roaming spirits behind these fading walls...

SELF LOVE

Loving yourself and being stuck on yourself are two different things. One emanates from the soul; the other from the ego.

THE TRUE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

It would do well for many religious people, Christians and self-proclaimed, Evangelical political leaders to remember these words. For...
