THAT FEELING OF WANTING TO LEAVE THIS WORLD

https://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

As a spiritual counselor, I am hearing more and more people say that they feel like they want to leave this particular world. These individuals report that they are tired of the crooked and dirty politics, hate speech, division, the horrible way in which people treat one another and so much more. They say that they don't feel like this world is their home anymore and they feel as if they want to go to a better place. These people are not suicidal, nor are they clinically depressed. They just feel like, spiritually, they have outgrown this particular world and the direction it is moving it. The question I pose here is, are such individuals just disenchanted with the way life on planet Earth is going? Have the winds of change taken their world into a direction that feels unfamiliar and cold? Or, are such individuals experiencing something on a soul level? Something that is alerting them that this world is wearing out like an old garment? I would hypothesize, that perhaps, both of these scenarios are true to a certain extent.

Throughout time immemorial, it has been reported that before a civilization came to an end; that there were a certain group of people that separated themselves from the very toxic and even violent way of life of their societies. And, in a religious context, these were usually the folks to start civilization over again once a major cataclysm struck. But perhaps the solution to conquering this feeling is a bit more simple than that, yet complex in its own, right. Perhaps as the world runs headlong in a very undesirable direction, there are some of us who just need to retreat from such behaviors and focus on our own connection with our own souls and the Divine. Perhaps there is a great lesson to be learned by those who participate in the monastic life. And some of us just need to focus on the simple things in life and that presence of something greater in our hearts.

GLOBAL CATACLYSM: ARE WE ON THE BRINK?

There is a growing number of people in the world today, who feel that we are on the brink of something terrible happening. It seems everywhere you turn, people are saying that something doesn't feel right about the energy of our planet. Politicians and government leaders seem to have gone insane. So many people in society are hateful, critical and selfish. Is there something monumental over the horizon for the human race?

The Bible speaks of a day when evil will spread upon the Earth. And people will become more and more darkened in their thoughts, hearts and actions. The Quran speaks of an almost cyclical cataclysm that has happened since the inception of man. Empires and civilizations rise, then they divide, fight, become evil, distant from God and begin to kill one another. And then, a disaster strikes and sweeps them all  away, save for a few who are the righteous. The Buddhist teach that our actions and state of mind affect the natural environment around us. But they also teach, that if we change our way of living and our state of mind, we can change the outcome that may be poised and ready to befall us all.

Are these great spiritual faiths and writings, correct? Are we teetering on the edge of a massive cataclysm that could take us into what many call the day of judgement? Some say yes, but even if they are wrong, I certainly think this is a day and age when we need to get right with our creator, and do a serious inventory on our personal morals and values. Both the Bible and the Quran tell us that when the final day arrives, it will come quickly and unexpectedly. How many of us would be ready if it happened tomorrow?

WHEN POLITICS MAKE US HATEFUL

If you live in the United States, or even outside of the country; you may be affected or even mesmerised at what is happening in our political system. Politicians are dividing the people, and also dividing among themselves. Many people are feeling the emotional burden of this melee, but even fewer are asking, is this normal?

It all began in the early to mid-1990s, when a movement known as political correctness began to emerge in our society. Some individuals in politics began to espouse this notion that there were certain things that we should not say or do in the public eye. After all, it might offend someone. This might have been a good idea to call each and every one of us to conscience. But it soon grew into a seething monster that censored every aspect of culture and life. The lines begin to be drawn, and soon everyone was critical and hateful of one another's differences.

Now, in 2020, the aftermath of this movement has grown into something that is literally frightening. We must ask, what kind of world are we living in when citizens and politicians alike, wish death on individuals whom a President supports or upholds? And then, even more hatred ensues towards those who voiced their hatred first. When does all of this stop, and what will it do to our world if this is not corrected soon?

Some individuals believe that our politicians are just completely insane. Some believe this is a puppet show, staged to divide the people for some ultimate agenda. But whatever the case may be, I believe it is high time that we stop looking to other human beings to lead us in the right direction. Naturally, we need social order and political leaders. But we do not need to follow their lead or sit back idly while they behave in ways that are absolutely unimaginable. Is it too much for any of us to behave with a little compassion and integrity? And is it too incomprehensible to think that we might demand the same from our leaders?

We need to stop being so impressionable and always looking to follow the lead of someone else. We need to be the impression, or as Gandhi said, be the change we want to see in the world. I do believe this country, this world, needs to get back to the way of the heart. Listening within to that still Small voice that guides us in the way of kindness, love and true compassion for our fellow human beings. Then, and only then we might be able to stop this runaway train that is sending us all headlong in the direction of destruction.
